I do a lot of walking on the Sussex coast so here are a few photos of some of my recent walks there
The Seven Sisters

Wild flowers at Saltdean, which is about halfway between Brighton and Newhaven

The next two are of the cliffs to the east of Hastings. The clifftop walk from Hastings eastwards to Fairlight is fantastic, with the path plunging down into deep wooded ravines

Chichester Harbour, a vast area of creeks and marshes, is one of my favourite places for walking. These two pictures are of the creek at Dell Quay

Lovely photos.
Reminded me that my parents took me on holiday to Pagham when I was about 3. We stayed in a converted railway carriage. Funny the things you remember

Great photos. I have one of the Seven Sisters taken from a similar spot and I remember the path east from Hastings to Fairlight was a bit steeper than I expected with the drop into the ravine. Happy memories. Thanks

Great pics Dovegirl. It's been many years since I was down in Sussex but one day mebbe.....

Wonderful photos. :)

Lovely photos Dovegirl. I like the Pagham Beach one.... big skies, calm sea, and rock marker which draws the eye.
(certainly better than the one you took of the full stop in your other topic ;) ;D )
I must try and bag some new counties down yon end o'country next year :)

Those pictures are beautiful, Dovegirl. I love the one of the cliffs at Hastings especially, the colours and light are breathtaking. Thanks for sharing. :) O0

Penygadair, Rather be walking, sunnydale - many thanks :)

Converted railway carriages do seem to be a feature of some coastal spots. Must have been fun staying in one.
I remember the path east from Hastings to Fairlight was a bit steeper than I expected with the drop into the ravine.
I think the ascents from Hastings to Fairlight seem steeper than the Seven Sisters!
(certainly better than the one you took of the full stop in your other topic ;) ;D )
Glad you think so Mel! :D ;D
I love the one of the cliffs at Hastings especially
There are some good walks from Hastings :)
Love the seven sisters one
My favourite walk :)

Lovely piccies! :)

Thanks eddy :)

Glad to know that the full-stop test was so successful. ;) Such great photos! I thought I knew the South Coast quite well but Pagham is new to me. And the stunning Hastings cliff views look very enticing.
Thanks a lot.

Thanks JW :) Hastings to Fairlight has a surprisingly wild and remote atmosphere. The path is subject to diversion because of erosion but it's still a great walk

Beautiful pictures you have captured Dovegirl thanks for sharing. O0

Thanks for sharing your wonderful pictures Dovegirl!
I recently moved to St Leonards on Sea and would love to do some hiking in the local area, especially after seeing your inspiring shots. Are there any guidebooks that you would particularly recommend or do you simply use an OS map and plan your own routes? I am planning to buy a map anyway but a good book with suggestions of walks of different lengths will be useful to get going.
Thanks,
Bibi

Thanks Bibi :)
I get ideas for walks from books and the internet but I like to look at my OS maps and plan my own routes. A straightforward way of doing this is to include sections from trails depicted by green diamonds, eg in your area the 1066 Country Walk. Have a look in your local library for books of walks. The Pathfinder East Sussex and South Downs and the AA 50 Walks in Sussex and South Downs are good collections. And try googling walks in your area. The East Sussex County Council website has some leaflets you can download

Hope that helps :)

Thanks Dovegirl for the advice. The OS is on the way and I'll look up where my local library is. Brilliant!

Movie makers occasionally use the classic Seven Sisters view. People associate that view with British isles.
My PC landscape wallpaper has that view, one of my favourites. O0
