Great report and photos Dave
I've very fond memories of this region in the southern Lakes. The walk may be demanding but the views are superb from the ridges. One of my favourite walks took in Swirl How, Great Carrs, Brim fell and the old man. These photos brought back memories. Can I ask if the descent from Wetherlam is straightforward? I'm intending to climb the mountain next year.

Yes, the descent down the Lad Stones ridge is very easy - it's a broad grassy ridge for much of its length and is not very steep. I didn't have any difficulty following the path down

What camera did you use for the photos?

These were all taken on a Canon 1100d with the stock 18-55mm lens. I had the white balance set to 'cloudy' for most of the day which helps to boost colours a bit. The black and white one was on the receiving end of some Photoshop trickery
