Hi, backpack question
« on: 12:12:48, 20/02/19 »
Hi,

Just joined. Hoping I could ask the forum about backpacks. What with the “B” word happening, I’m looking to find a multi day lightweight backpack and I’d like to buy from a British company. Other than alpkit, are there any others?

Thanks in advance.

I think Lowe Alpine is UK designed but like most kit it's probably made overseas

Berghaus are based in Sunderland. I'm not sure where their gear is made though  ;)

How about Aiguille Alpine ?

They are a 'cottage' industry from Staveley near Kendal. Designed and made there and you can even visit their factory & possibly be served by the person who may stitch/make your rucksack. They will modify one of their standard range to incorporate any changes you prefer.

I believe somebody on here has one of their rucksacks.

Atom Packs are made in the Lakes, very light weight and fantastic designs.

I think, (only think mind you) that it was American, started by Jeff and Greg Lowe. But they sold it on and it has changed hand several times since then.

I doubt they are unique - change 'backpack' for virtually any product :

"designed in the UK, manufactured in Vietnam / China / Korea"

I have a Berghaus pack, British company but the pack was made in Vietnam.  Not sure what the 'B' word has got to do with buying a pack, get whichever one is comfortable and fits your needs.

I think Omm ( theomm.com ) may be British too.

It didn’t want to mention Brexit, as in I wanted to put money into a UK company.  😀

Their bags look great, if not a tad expensive, but the main issue is their lead time is 9 weeks!

Because they're made to order, and it's a one man operation.
