More Weather!
« on: 18:19:23, 11/02/20 »
This weather is driving me nuts! Was supposed to be walking Exmouth to Sidmouth last weekend but had to cancel due to the weather warning. Rearranged for this weekend and have now had to cancel again because of two more flippin’ weather warnings with winds around 55mph and torrential rain! Getting so frustrated that I can’t get out there! Anyone else feeling the same?☹️

Yes, not pleasant at all. I like to go up on Portsdown Hill to run and I don't mind a bit of a breeze normally but trying to run into the wind this week was not enjoyable at all. I only tried it once, it was only great when I was able to turn around and run back to the bus stop.

That's just a chop!  Wait until you are looking up at the waves from the bridge and you have fish going past the windows.

How about this one I received a while ago. I hope it still works.

The weather doesn't really make much difference for my local walks - except that a bit more care needs to go into the planning. For example, if there's a strong wind coming from the west then I'll head west for the outbound section and have the wind behind me for the return. For the outbound part of the loop, I'll head inland and choose woods and country lanes with hedges for shelter, and I might return along the coast or open countryside. As far as rain is concerned... I like it!

Still no.  Clearly the upper deck is still not out of bounds and they are making headway.  When the ship can barely make 10kts into the weather and every sixth wave brings it to a dead stop while its buoyancy pushes it backwards out of the wave - then its rough!  A bit like 0:55 to 1:10 in this video bit for over a day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl1sDcWoWpE

Well Gunwharfman and Ninthace as an ex-sailor I appreciate a good storm as much as the next man (woman), however I was planning to walk to Sidmouth not float to it!😄

I'm making the most of a window in the weather tomorrow, the forecast down here is for sun and cloud, temperature up to 9C (although the "feels like" is a lot lower), no rain and "moderate" wind. I've only a 6 mile circuit planned but that's because it's going to be my first walk for months due to various unavoidable things that have come to occupy my time and I'm really not sure how my unexercised legs are going to cope, it'll be kill or cure. If all goes well I hope to make up for lost time by getting out much more frequently than I used to in the past.

The bad weather is frustrating but I am very thankful I don't live in a house that may get flooded. Things could be a lot worse than having to change a walk  :(

Indeed April.  I remember the Lake District after the last big floods,  Ullswater is supposed to have risen by 8 feet and there was barely a stone wall left standing between the Kirkstone Pass and Glenridding and Pooley Bridge became Pooley.  The poor folks in Carlisle and Kendal really copped it too.  Not being able to get out for a few days is a minor inconvenience by comparison.

Took a walk in the local country park today. A guy came from the opposite direction and all I could see was his eyes. He was very well wrapped up. I smiled and said hello. No idea if he acknowledged me at all. Not even a twinkle in his eyes. Looked like he didnt really want to be outdoors.
I realised he had the right idea though. I should have wore the balaclava not my Beanie. :o
A night under silnylon. Doesn't have the same ring to it.
