Thanks for the post. I remember the lights of Castleton. It was my introduction to the Peak District and resulted in many happy holidays there.
These boots are made for walking.... so long as the rest of my body agrees

I've still not actually seen the Christmas lights at Castleton.

To be honest Lee, you really aren't missing much.  A lot of hype over a poor effort, in my view.  They may have been good some years ago but there are many towns/villages with far better displays these days.

It was the late 1980's I saw the lights.

We had gone to the Peak District for a weekend event only to find that the organisers had confused the dates and the date for the event at the conference centre was the following weekend. So over 100 people travelled from all over the country for a non event. However we decided to find somewhere to stay and explore the Peak District over the weekend especially as we couldn't come back the next weekend.

We liked what we saw and returned the following summer and for many years on and off afterwards. From the ashes of disaster rose years of enjoyment.
