Day 2
We awoke to more sunshine after a very sound sleep, we had been so tired after the long walk in the heat. We had our breakfast and a couple of brews then packed our stuff away.
Beefy and the MSR in the morning
Crinkles, Bowfell and Scafell Pike from our pitch
Coniston Fells and Grasmere
We had decided to not do much ascent on the walk today, the heat was already oppressive.
Grasmere and Alcock Tarn
We descended steeply down the fellside toward Alcock Tarn, pathless and hard work. It got harder when we reached a patch of bracken
A lot of cursing followed before we met up with the path that comes down from Lord Crag, much easier going on the path.
Approaching Alcock Tarn
Reeds are beginning to take over the tarn.
Alcock Tarn
We left the tarn, amazed we'd had it all to ourselves. There were a few people on the way up as we descended toward White Moss.
Zooming in on Harrison Stickle from the descent from Alcock Tarn
We had a brew and some food on our favourite rock on White Moss Common. For once there were no space invaders and we had a peaceful lunch.
On the Coffin Route
There was some shade along here and we were grateful for it as the heat was intense.
Walking through Rydal Hall to Ambleside
We got some cold milk in Ambleside and sat in the shade waiting for our bus. We would like a bit more cloud next weekend please. Day 2 was Pitch below Heron Pike - Alcock Tarn - White Moss - White Moss Common - Coffin Route - Rydal - Ambleside 9.5km with 199m ascent. We looked at new stoves when we got home with the threads in our old one a bit worn and damaged. We got the MSR pocket rocket 2 so we will be using it this weekend, I hope we are happy with it.
