Title: Slovenia

We've just booked a week at Lake Bohinj then a couple of days in Ljubljana, in mid September. Not planning any serious hiking this time, rather gentle hiking, hence staying lake rather than mountain. Any suggestions welcome!  :)

There are plenty of routes around, although most of the ones i recall involve more than just "gentle" walking as the lake is ringed by mountains. There is a cable car, though, to take you to higher levels, you can walk round the lake and there are some waterfalls not too far away from what I remember (it was a few years ago!).  :D

Well if the mountains are near we probably won't be able to help ourselves! Though we're not taking our walking boots, just our walking shoes so we won't be going up Mt Triglav! Have you been to Kranska Gora? Is it worth us going there? We will have a car.

Yes, we've had a holiday based there in the past too. It's a good base for walking - maybe better than Bohinj even - and again there is walking suiting all abilities.  O0


Hikes to the "3 Borders" and into the valley behind KG are good too for slightly less-strenuous options, there are waterfalls nearby to visit and there was a cable car from KG into the mountains with a relatively easy path to a nearby summit.


Sorry, it was a while ago and I can't remember all the names of the summits/walks, but it should be fairly evident if you have a map and/or guidebook. Anyway, the whole area is beautiful so you should be fine.  :)    


There's also some good hiking from the Vrsic pass, which should be accessible by car if the road is open (no snow or rockfall!) and which is spectacular as drive, let alone a hiking destination.  :D

Great thanks for that.  We usually try and avoid the busy tourist places.
