Any snow in the Yorkshire Dales?
« on: 07:55:10, 27/12/18 »
Looks like it's been a mild winter so far, even in the mountains, but I'm heading to Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent this weekend so just wanted to check the conditions. Any snow under foot yet?

What about the Lake District?

Hi, not sure if this will help you but Ingleborough has it's own webcam so on a clear day you'll see if there's snow on it. Today however it's covered in mist/fog

Low cloud and drizzle by the looks of it for this weekend. Local weather forecast http://www.mylocalweather.org.uk/settle/ is showing temperatures of 10C and 11C on Saturday and Sunday - shorts and t shirts weather  8)

On the above weather forecast web page, have a look at the Live RailCams button (right hand side of screen) - clicking that button gives you 4 web cams and the one for Ribblehead Viaduct is pointed at not only the viaduct, but Whernside too.

Ahh... One of my favourite webcams.. Sometimes I just have it tucked away in the corner of my screen, watching the clouds and the light and the trains going by..

Excellent, thanks for all the comments.

I'm actually really disappointed it's not colder - I've just invested in a load of decent winter gear (see previous posts!) and had hoped this weekend would be the perfect time to test it! (I live down South so don't get into the mountains often, but I'm tagging this trip on to seeing family.)

Oh well, really looking forward to my walk nonetheless: Based on the Yorkshire Three Peaks route we're starting in Horton in Ribblesdale, going up Pen-y-ghent, then down to Ribblehead, (skipping out Whernside,) up Ingleborough, then back down to Horton in Ribblesdale. A steady 15-miler to round off the year  O0

If it's a good day out, I'll look to do the full YTP when I visit family in the summer (during the week... The weekend crowds on this route sound  horrendous!).

Rather than going all the way down to Ribblehead; once you re-emerge onto the road, after about a third of a mile or so, turn left and go up past some old railway cottages. Ascend Park Fell and pick up the splendid 'ridge' route to Ingleboro'
