I really enjoyed this wonderful walk . It is about 8 miles all in , up to , and round the Stiperstones . A 480 million years old Quartzite ridge in Shropshire. O0

It is a 1 & 1/2 hour drive from South Birmingham
My first time there , and I thoroughly enjoyed it . If you go early , it is very quiet indeed . Thank you for having a gander . O0

Thanks. ! Yes indeed . When seen from a distance , all the rock outcrops look small surrounded by the masses of purple heather , but up close they are quite dramatic . Of course I had to climb up and touch the Trig point too..a mini mountain . :)

Thanks . ! This is near to the Welsh border but it has good access by motorway , so the driving is relaxed . O0

Some great, great photos G&P, you seem to be hitting my area with a frequency and accuracy that is making me quite jealous. We are observing lockdown a bit more strictly because of the need to support an aged parent. I lived at the the Bog, near to Cranberry Rock, for 5 years, after finishing with farm management.
The Devils chair, re. April's post, features in both the 4th and 5th photo. I have lived within sight of the south Shropshire Hills all my life. There are odd occasions that the chair will appear as the name suggests, but I think you have photographed, photo 5 down, it well given the day. Though it does look a bit benign, less so on the one occasion it appeared to me, briefly, out of a very gloomy overcast from a rare aspect that gave it more dominance, but that was from the west @ Bentlawnt looking east . Moonlight will also give the chair some very ghostly qualities.
It is an area that has got more secrets about terrain and other things than a lifetime will yield. If you are tempted to go back you should include Mytton Dingle in a route, so often missed by these high line circuits.
P.S. Saw my first foxglove yesterday, haven't managed to get out for 10 days and have caught a marvelous display of Yellow Flag in some Withy Beds near us. Another few days and the flowers will be gone. Phew!

Yes - I had never heard of it before so googled it - Shropshire and Herefordshire have some lovely hills rising above the surrounding farmland.
I was lucky enough to go on a course and work on a Differential GPS system at Wooferton, site of BBC World Service short wave transmitters, just south of Ludlow several years ago - plenty of time in the evening to go exploring. Liked it so much that I even considered the area as a possible place to retire to.

I love foxgloves, there were none in our garden when we moved in, but I acquired a few large plants from a roadside plant stall recently - they are now in flower and are magnificent in an otherwise immature garden. I'll be out collecting seed by the cupful soon, one of our local hills is covered in thousands of Foxgloves.

The main path as you approach, seen in photos #5 and #6, brings back the only slightly negative recollection I have, I remember it felt awful to walk on.

Thats interesting about the chair.
I may take my family up there this Tuesday and if so , I will take more time viewing it . And yes , I think Shropshire is a lovely area for walking with a little time spent looking at the OS mapping before setting off , to find the best spots.

Oh Ludlow , such a great place to start some wonderful walks .We have a few Foxgloves in our garden too , and they are really striking at the moment . The colour is cracking .!

Thanks , and I know what you mean about the quartz stoned pathway...hard work . I stumbled a couple of times which made me slow down , as I can get careless at times , if looking at nice scenery .

I also walked the Stiperstones last week. I parked in Snailbeach at the village hall then walked up through the mine buildings and the hollies as far as the ridge.
The Stiperstones is a great walk - highly recommended.

Yes that is a funny coincidence indeed . If it is the same hall..there is an honesty box to pop a quid in through the little slot in the stone pillar at the entrance to the car park for parking...It looked like someone couldn`t find the slot and left a pound coin at the base of it..I was going to pick it up and pop it in the slot but decided it looked right just sitting there... :) :)
The village seems to be tucked away from everywhere , and enjoying the quiet all to itself. O0
