Honister Ramber 77/77A
« on: 19:17:09, 11/08/20 »
Hello
Could anyone please tell me if this a reliable service and whether there are any issues with full buses so not able to get on etc? Hoping to use to go between Honister Youth Hostel and the Fish at Buttermere.

Thanks
Sam

Here is the timetable below. Due to social distancing it says there is limited capacity on the bus. It is a small bus and when we have used it in previous years it is sometimes very full and people have been unable to get on. Not sure what it has been like this year, it only started on 3rd Aug.

@sammyb    Just in case you're not aware, The Fish at Buttermere has been renamed as the Buttermere Court Hotel.  The name change is causing a bit confusion to anyone who is arriving at Buttermere for the first time and looking for The Fish Hotel.

Thank you both for the information. I was planning to do Dale Head, Hindscarth, Robinson. But if it’s looking a bit dodgy getting the bus back to the car I may think of something else

Thanks

Might be worth contacting Stagecoach to ask how busy the buses have been? I know the buses in Carlisle have been very quiet compared to normal, I don't know what they have been like in the Lake District.

From Stagecoach website
"Opening hours: Our switchboard is open from 09:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday.

Please see below for local depot information

"Buttermere Court Hotel"? Is nothing sacred? What would Mary Robinson have to say? Do they still serve Hesket Newmarket ales?

(sorry for straying O/T).

Why not park at Honister, either in the NT car park or the one that belongs to the slate mine, then catch the bus from there down to Buttermere and walk back over Robinson to Dale Head.   That way you won't feel under pressure to meet the bus, or worry that you won't be able to get on it.

I know, I think it's a great shame that they've changed the name.   It's been called The Fish for hundreds of years, and it's called The Fish in all the guide books and advertising literature about Buttermere.  The hotel was sold earlier this year, by the Richardsons who'd run it for the past 50 years.   The couple who bought it also own the Allerdale Court Hotel in Cockermouth, and their small hotel group is called The Court Hotel Group, hence why The Fish is now called the Buttermere Court Hotel.

I'll still continue to call it 'The Fish', as will many others.

Good idea Lakeland Lorry. I could try that.
Thanks,
