Pen y ghent and Plover Hill
« on: 07:36:05, 12/05/08 »
11th May 2008

Today we met up with two friends from the Online Fellwalking Club at Horton in Ribblesdale. The ascent of P Y G was made via Brackenbottom on a fine and sunny morning. From the summit we carried along the ridge to the less frequently visited Plover Hill before decending to the Foxup - Horton bridleway. We followed this back to Horton, stopping off for a look at Hull Pot along the way. As we descended down the Pennine Way back to Horton there was a rather dramatic thunderstorm over towards Ingleborough which I manged to get a couple of pictures from. The pictures from the walk are now available on the website for those wishing to view.

Dist:   8.75mls       Ascent:   1810 feet         Time:  6hrs

Regards,

Dave

Great report, top quality as always Dave. Very interesting with the 3 peaks walk not too far on the horizon.

Like the look off Hull Pot and the wall of rain is a great shot.

Great pictures, Dave.  You aren't kidding when you say that only 1:1000 people on Pen Y Ghent follow the ridge to Plover Hill.  I did the same walk a couple of years' ago when I was camping in Horton and didn't see anyone at all from me leaving the summit of PYG until Hull Pot.

Great walk and great report.

On Sunday I think we saw 3 people along the ridge whereas on the summit of PYG there must have been well on the way to 3 figures.

Just to compare and contrast Daves fantastic (as always) pictures of his walk with some snaps I took last weekend of the same route.

I agree too, Plover Hill you have to yourself as everyone else wanders down the Pennine Way path.

Penyghent in a bit of a mood, there....

This is my most climbed hill (more than 30 ascents since 1964!)

Just showing off a bit, there....

Great pics FSV at least with the frosty weather the ground along Plover Hill will have been a bit firmer.

Still bad if you walked near the wall Dave, it seemed knee deep in some places, much better to stay a good few meters away from the wall if you didnt want a mud heavy stride.
