I spent last week-end in Ambleside and opted for a walk from the hotel door step which involved no transport: the Fairfield Horseshoe. The weather forecasters predicted very good visibility in the afternoon after 3pm. I took a boat trip from Bowness to Ambleside in the morning and started the walk at 12.30pm. I opted for an anti-clockwise route starting on Low Pike and finishing on Nab Scar. Total distance was 20km taking 5.5 hours. This is a fantastic circular walk with good views from every summit on the round.
