Saturday and due to change of plans I went for a walk from my AA "50 walks in the Yorkshire Dales" book. Parking at Middleham was dicey but found a cul de sac
Middleham castle
went through a field other side, after blundering about among amused sheep, I found the correct corner of a big field, to exit.
Soon got down to the river cover
what a great spot.
banana sarnie n tea was in order, twas just sublime here
further on away from river a little, some very nosy sheep
tame rabbit
crossed the cover at hullo bridge, heres the river from it
here me book guide went wrong, saying turn right on a permissive path. Turned right away from signed PROW, wound up against a wall where a stile was blocked off, my book is copyright a few years ago, clearly things have changed! Backtrack abit, follow path out onto Braithwaite Lane, turn right and go West
twas then down lane for a bit, which got very narrow n was dicey when summat came other way! Crossed river, then directed in a tiny gate, up a sloping graveyard, to a VERY well hidden church
and out the yard on other side onto a road, church was a bit more visible that side but still in the middle o nowhere! Go left along wide road a bit, book directs me to leave road for path to Tipgill on the left, in fact was Tupgill on the right side! Somebody doesnt know right from left..........
Up the path, this is looking back down it
yellow flowers are crosswort, pinky thing is (tufted?) vetch
went cross fields n up a little valley with some ornamental features...................didnt take a pic there as was having to dodge teenagers playing football in the middle o nowhere!
Anybody ID the yellow flowered plant? Berberis?
Up on the gallops area now, heading East back towards Middleham. Bedstraw flower
was now a dull walk for a mile or so to join road n arc back via a fields past castle ruins into Middleham, still nice really!
A really nice walk, driving back went past a Brymor ice cream place near Jervaulx abbey, still open. Went in had double scoop whopper of ginger ice cream, didnt quite work as a flavour really.
They had 20-30 flavours, didnt even see what they all were! Must do that walk at Jervaulx sometime.............
I would recommend this walk!
