Orrest Head from Windermere
« on: 16:46:13, 13/11/18 »
With weather forecasters predicting heavy rain last Sunday morning followed by a brighter afternoon, I decided to climb a low fell in the morning followed by a low level vantage point in the afternoon. I got 555 service to Dale Bottom from Ambleside at 930am. I targeted High Rigg. Sadly I didn't get the chance to take many photos as the rain was really tipping it down. It was a day for the waterproofs. I gained the summit within the hour of walking. It was my 100th Wainwright fell. I ran back to the bus stop eager to catch 1137 back to Ambleside. I got back with 10 minutes to spare. After checking the weather forecast I decided to go to Windermere and climb Orrest Head. I always base my walks around a forest this time of year and Elleray wood was displaying its autumnal glory. I got to the viewpoint 20 minutes after leaving the rail station. This is one of the reasons why I love the lake district: you can reach a vantage point with minimal effort. Unfortunately my flight was cancelled on Friday so just one report this time :-[

Glad the weather was good to you at Orrest Head, it was a washout when I went. Nice to see the views I missed.

Nice pics henry  O0

I think you must be the Lake Districts most dedicated visitor when you still fly across the Irish Sea for one day  O0
