Over the Kirkstone Pass today for a short round over two of the Wainwright tops above Glenridding.
Dullish skies to start with but with an improving forecast as we park right by the road in the layby under Stybarrow Crag. Ullswater from the layby.
We cut the corner slightly walking above Glenridding and past some very nice houses.
Field of bluebells across the valley.
Passing the bottom of Swart Beck which runs down through the mine ruins.
Catstyecam still troubled with a bit of low cloud.
Looking back down the valley to Ullswater, Place Fell and Boredale Hause.
The top falls in Swart Beck.
Catstyecam is now free of cloud.
.
On to Sheffield Pike.
We have not had a view the last two times on Sheffield Pike so it was nice to see along Ullswater.
The fells above Hartsop from the path to Heron Pike.
All the Helvellyn group are clear now.
Zooming in on a sunny Catstyecam.
Looking down onto the head of Ullswater and Glenridding.
The shark and rhino peek around the corner on the path down Heron Crag.
Heron Crag from the climb to Glenridding Dodd.
Gowbarrow and Ullswater from Glenridding Dodd.
From the same place you can see Birkhouse Moor on the right, St.Sunday Crag on the left with Fairfield and Dollywagon Pike peeping up at the back.
Silver Crag on Place Fell seen from the path down by Mossdale Beck.
The path took us directly ( and steeply at times ) to the car but although fine today there are a lot of windblown trees and tree roots so it might be a little tricky in the wet. These are the bluebells in the back garden of Hawkhow Cottage.
Our route was-
Stybarrow Crag - Greenside Rd - Stang end - Sheffield Pike - Heron crag - Glenridding Dodd - Mossdale Beck - Stybarrow Crag (about 5 miles  1900ft of ascent )

Ooooh, all those lovely bluebells on the open hillside.  Bet it was a lot less crowded than Rannerdale Knotts too!

Nice pics and write up.  Thanks for posting  :)

For a 5 mile walk that offers a lot of fabulous views. You certainly picked a cracking day for it.

Lovely photos - particularly liked the shot of Helvellyn with the tarn in the foreground.
