We've been doing local walks for a couple of weeks, no photos from last weekend or Saturday, the weather has been awful. We have had the dreaded lergy so I suppose you could say the weather has been well timed because we haven't felt like doing very much anyway. The weather looked better on Sunday so we parked in the layby near Stybarrow Crag near Glenridding on Sunday. We arrived as a heavy shower started and we waited for 15 minutes until it stopped. We had almost left to go back home
The sun came out as we headed toward Glenridding. We thought we would visit Lanty's Tarn and walk into Grisedale
Gowbarrow Fell across Ullswater
Beefy and Squeaky on the shore path to Glenridding
Beefy has his new Montane birthday pants on, a birthday present from a very nice person, he was 94 on Sunday
On the way we had a hail shower and when we arrived in Glenridding at the same time as a snow shower we were rethinking going up to Lanty's Tarn.
Snow on Birkhouse Moor and Raise
This was after the snow shower had passed us. We walked to the steamer pier at Glenridding and then walked along the shore path toward Patterdale.
Glenridding Pier and Place Fell
We had sun and blue sky again. The lake is high and the paths were under water.
Sheffield Pike and Glenridding Dodd
We walked back toward Glenridding and we decided to do Lanty's Tarn after all.
Ullswater from the climb to Lanty's Tarn
The wind was stronger as we climbed and there were one or two really strong gusts. The wind was bitterly cold too.

Lanty's Tarn
We stopped for our lunch here and we were grateful when the sun appeared to warm us up. The tarn was very full and the dam wall was almost unseen at the other end.
A close up of St Sunday Crag from near Lanty's Tarn
We walked toward Grisedale but the wind was full in our faces.
Dollywaggon Pike and Nethermost Pike from near Lanty's Tarn
We could see dark cloud and another front coming in so we retreated back by the Tarn and down to Glenridding. We had more hail and snow showers as we descended the now snow covered slippery steps down to Westside. I was taking my time being very careful not to slip. I heard a crash to my left and a young bloke had slipped onto his backside. I asked if he was ok and mentioned I was being careful in order not to do the same. He smiled, picked himself up and along with 3 other blokes carried on at the same speed. Oh to be young again, I carried on slowly down making sure I didn't slip. The weather threw everything at us but we still managed a pretty good few hours with nice views and Beefy had a nice walk for his birthday. Our route was Stybarrow Crag - Glenridding - shore path - St Patrick's Well - Glenridding - Westside - Lanty's Tarn - Westside - Glenridding - Stybarrow Crag. 4 miles with 180m ascent.
