We parked below Sale Fell near Routenbeck on Sunday. It was sunny but due to be very windy so we did a couple of little fells, Sale Fell and Ling Fell.

Beefy and Squeaky on Sale Fell summit
We'd felt a bit daft because we'd stopped at another cairn thinking it was the summit. Only to see the higher ground further over. I've done this fell quite a few times, I should know where the summit is
The cairn is missing from the summit now. We didn't stay long; the wind was ferocious.
Descending to Kelswick with Ling Fell our next summit in view
We walked to Eskin and joined the Corpse Road. We turned left and found a slightly sheltered spot near Burthwaite to eat an early lunch. We started climbing steeply after it, up the path on the eastern side of the fell.

Beefy and Squeaky on Ling Fell
A forum member mentioned (I think it was Percy?
) he thought there was higher ground on Ling Fell than that the trig was on. I see what he meant, there does look like higher ground behind Beefy. I hadn't noticed on my previous visits.
Sale Fell ahead from the Corpse Road
It wasn't as windy now and it was nice to have peace from the wind. We were returning by Eskin and Kelswick but doubling back on the path around Dodd Crag to get back to the car
Almost back down to the car
Our route was Routenbeck - Sale Fell - Kelswick - Eskin - Burthwaite - Ling Fell - Corpse Road - Eskin - Dodd Crag - Routenbeck 7.6 miles with 550m ascent. A pretty good day out
