Thanks April. The first 2 pictures were taken on low level walks in the Torridon area. The last 2 were in the garden. Our colony of feral cats means that we don’t see so many rabbits any more.

Not a great picture - they would not turn round for me.  Not the sort of thing you expect to find in a back garden on Exmoor.

.....The Tree bumblebee was quite a bit bigger than your average bee!  :o
And he has a rucksack too  ;D

If that is the head of a chive it does’t look big enough to me. Also the ones of my acquaintance were marked a bit more strongly and looked like wasps on speed.  Mind you I also left without too much close inspection.  My mate had a laurel hedge that was stiff with the blighters.  Over to an entomologist.

The flower they were on was huge, about six inches diameter, if that helps. Probably makes the length of each insect about an inch and a half.

Ah that’s different.  Clearly an example of stinginbuggerus nasticus, sorry I don’t know the common name.
