TR - The Dyfi Ridge 2-day backpack
« on: 09:03:17, 22/04/19 »
A backpack of the Dyfi group of hills, a little walked ridge traverse from Dinas Mawddwy in the east to the A487 summit pass in the west, returning to Dolgellau over the low hill country north-east of Gau Graig via the old restricted byway.

This route was a good choice for a predicted warm and sunny Easter weekend with hordes of walkers on more popular hills and some disruption on public transport in other areas. A noon start meant that we saw a mere handful of walkers on Maesglase and nobody else at all thereafter.

Terrific report and photos, as ever. I walked the same route 10 years ago (how time flies!) from Dinas Mawddwy almost as far as Waun-oer, where unlike you I descended and made a circuit back to my start. Thanks for the memories!

@fernman - Thanks very much. Though a natural traverse, it's hard to make a day-walk circuit from it - even the Nuttalls route does a long out-and-back.

@richard - Thanks again, a grand couple of days.

I do enjoy reading about the lesser known areas away from the main tourist hotspots, the sort of areas we prefer to walk ourselves. See last weekends queues on Snowdon and Pen y Fan for a horror show! Thanks for posting a very enjoyable TR  O0

Thanks a lot Phil. Unknown or forgotten backwaters are a specilality of ours  :).

I just looked up those stories, good grief!  :o
Two miles of cars parked along the Storey Arms road below Pen y Fan, long rows of ticketed cars below Snowdon, what a nightmare.

Lovely report, as you say it was ridiculously busy that weekend, I walked the tarrens and saw just 2 people twice.

Great report VG, love the Maesglase shot  O0

Our third day in the Lakes was the busiest with people, perhaps you have the right idea to avoid it  :)

@37 427 - Thanks a lot. The Tarrens must have been a good choice too, very rarely more than a handful of walkers in that range.

@April - Thanks very much. Our next Lakes visit will probably not be before mid-September, unless we can sneak in a trip in the south-west around Eskdale.

I too am a fan of lesser-trodden places so I enjoyed reading that vghikers  O0

I've worked out you must have been walking amongst the lumpy, bumpy fells I could see when I nearly "bagged" Cadair Idris a few years ago.

@Mel - Thank you, these hills and the nearby Dyfi forest and Tarren hills would make an extensive hilly view to the east of Cadair.

@adalard - Thanks again, a good linear route to revisit those hills.

@sunnydale - thank you, the Welsh quarries are always interesting and evocative of past times.
