‘Beast from the East’ walk
« on: 13:20:50, 08/02/21 »
Taking advantage of the snow covering all the mud, we managed a walk around local fields and footpaths this morning. In several places the snow had drifted and we were up to our knees in it, very unusual for Suffolk! It felt like we’d walked much further than just under 3 miles  :D

Love the pictures.  Enjoy the winter wonderland.   O0  Probably not worth investing in a pair of snow shoes just yet.  ;D

Not a single flake down here in the SW this weekend.  Just as well, stopped me from being tempted up onto the moors.  :)

Thankfully no snow has fallen here in Dyffryn, which is mighty strange, as the West coast of the Uk, usually gets the most adverse weather.

Still, i had to turn back from my walk this morning, as it was simply too cold.

I had intended to visit the summit of Yr Llethr, as its only three miles distant, as the crow flies from my front door, but the cold and windchill was so severe, that even wearing my best winter gear, it was so painful that i had to turn back.

In such cold weather, there's alway's that doubt, that if you turn your ankle or become incapacitated, you simply could not survive that long in such harsh conditions.

It was well below freezing, and the whole ground is set like concrete.

Its very rare for the weather to be so cold here on the Welsh coast, that even wearing the right clothing, you simply could not keep warm.  HORRID CONDITIONS

Nice pics Rural Roamer - and a decent amount of snow.  Once again Liverpool has avoided snow - we had a bit of hail this morning and its a bit nippy, but no worse than that.

Good decision DA.

Thanks for your comments. Yesterday we’d had more snow so avoided the fields. Today was pretty icy on the lanes so I put on my yaktrax ( probably for the first time since Beast from the East 1) and we tried some other paths, this time not so deep, though where there wasn’t so much snow we were sinking into the mud/puddles underneath. It seems that the ground isn’t actually frozen so the nights can’t have been that cold. A much more pleasant walk today as the sun came out a bit and the bitter wind has dropped. Once the snow melts the fields will be virtually unwalkable again.

I could pretend I’m in the fells surrounded by sheep! I think they thought we had food for them
