Title: In the market for a new pack
Post by: dank86 on 14:05:25, 13/06/18

Hey everyone, after this next trip I'll be retiring my current backpack. I'm currently looking at Ospreys, I don't mind spending the extra if it going to last.

What packs are you all using and any reviews on any pack would be helpful.

Looking to keep the weight down as well

Depends on what sort of trips you are doing, really need more info before making a suggestion.

Yea that would help wouldn't it lol, it'll be for multiday and long distance hikes.

My current pack I got longer than I can remember ago weighs 2kg empty and isn't as supportive/comfortable as it used to be. It's a 65l pack

Look Ultralight Outdoor Gear for some ideas.
Granite Gear, ULA,
Backpackinglight.co.uk for a few other brands such as Gossamer Gear

This looks like a firm worth checking out https://www.atompacks.co.uk/ I've ordered one but it hasn't come yet.

My experience is that the Osprey carry system suits me but I'm not so keen on the bag on its back (Exos 48L) but I'm not going to change it. My main gripe and I know its just a minor point, but I have never liked the rucksack colours, I have the black/gold version. Also the Osprey rucksack cover is just too flimsy, for such a costly item its just too easy to get small tears and holes in it.

I have a 50L Lightwave, sturdy, but for me it always made my shoulders sore.

I would have liked to have purchased a Nigor Zero but at £174 the price is ridiculous. I have a Golite Jam with a roll top, the Nigor is basically a Jam but with a proper lid.

I used a Go-lite Breeze for my early long treks and then went onto a ULA Circuit which is good. I now use Zpacks ArcBlast which is also great. I use the Arc Blast over the Circuit as it has frame which allows air flow to the back.

Love my Osprey exos . Fits me like a glove. Tough, cool  and ultra comfortable with up to 14 kilo (my personal absolute  max.)  On day walks I leave the top bag at home.
As I am 6'3" and fit can be difficult to get right but Osprey are good for this.  Only complaint  (minor  ) is that it has no bottom opening. Oh and I fabsilled the waist band pockets to ensure total waterproofing. Did this before first walk so they may be anyway. My electronics, medications etc are stored in there so didn't  want to  take any risk.
Have used it over 2000 miles so far. No complaints at all.
I bought a cheap Aldi day bag but it has only been on one 15 mile walk.  Nowt wrong with it except a wee bit short and I prefer the Osprey.

Damn, you must have missed it - I posted my Nigor ZeroG on classifieds quite a while ago, used only once. I'd forgotten all about it, it's still sitting in a closet. Maybe I should post it again, anyway if anybody wants it for - say - a further reduced price of £70 including delivery, let me know.
