Hands down one of the best walks I've ever done in the Lakes - sensational throughout and highly recommended

Great pics and TR - by coincidence I walked up the Esk valley to Scafell for the first time on Friday - but took the more obvious route up towards Mickledore with the intention of climbing Scafell via Foxes Tarn.  However, at the turn off for Foxes Tarn the weather was so disgusting that I turned round and went back the way I had come - it had stopped being fun!  The views when you approach Graet Moss are just wonderful - and - like you I saw very few people the whole day.  Certainly an area I will go back to - wonderful walking.  Thanks for posting - nice to see what was mostly blurred on Friday!

Superb report and pics, probably one of the best Eskdale rounds I've seen.
With the increasingly touristy feel of most of the Lakes with its plethora of laid paths, Eskdale is the only region that still has a strong attraction for us. There are excellent seldom trodden pockets that retain a wilderness mountain feel. Agree about Pen, it's a real gem.

A great day out by the look of it, Dave. That's a route I must try out this autumn.
Excellent photos as always.

Very dramatic photo of Broad Stand; makes me shudder remembering the fright that I gave myself on there many years ago  :o

And upper Eskdale is a lovely spot.
