A Walk to Remember
« on: 20:07:27, 11/11/18 »
A lovely walk to day with the our walking group.  We set off a 10am as usual and headed up towards the RAF war memorial close to Widicombe on the moor.  25 in our group a lot more than recent walks. On the way over hookney tor I was chatting with one of the other regulars about what a perfect walking day it had turned out to be, contrary to the weather forecast.  As we came around the corner towards the memorial stone I was lifted to see other walking groups also up there.  One of the other walk leaders read out a moving poem and a number of groups layed poppy reefs.  Some one had carried up a portable radio, meaning we then joined the rest of the nation at the Stoke of 11 on the 11th day of 11th month, in two minutes silent thought for those who gave their lives so that we could live ours in freedom.  A truly lovely walk and a genuine pleasure to meet up with so many other walking groups completely unplanned in the middle of Dartmoor.  The human spirit is a powerful force.

A very fitting way to honour all those who gave up so much for us all. Glad the weather played its part and you had a memorable walk and day
