Saturday's walk saw me take in four lower summits in the western Mournes. Starting from Leitrim Lodge I followed a good track to the Mourne wall before making the short ascent to the first summit of the day, Altataggart. Early morning cloud started to lift as views opened up of the western Mournes. After making a short detour to get a better viewpoint I returned to the Mourne wall, continuing toward Tievedockaragh. Views expanded to include the Slievemartin range and the eastern Mournes. Thereafter I traversed very marshy terrain towards my third summit of the day, Pierce's Castle. Pierce's castle offers great views of Eagle and Slievemoughanmore. I headed towards Tornamrock, my final summit, bearing in mind the forecasters had predicted light rain showers in the afternoon. They were accurate. As I got to the summit, I saw the rain coming in from Hilltown. I made a quick descent to the car park. Total distance was around 5 miles.
