GoreTex Pro repair - advice needed
« on: 20:02:34, 09/03/19 »

Snagged my favourite jacket on a barbed wire fence a few days ago, and am left with a 2cm tear in the fabric. :-\

I've seen gore tex patches, nylon patches, self adhesive patches, iron on patches on the internet - any advice which to choose?

I use spinnaker tape, which is a self adhesive tape made of rip-stop nylon. I've a 30 year old jacket patched with it, the patch has been there for at least 25 years. The jacket no longer fits me but it's still usable.

Sorry to hear about that. When I tore my event jacket about a year and a half ago I used a goretex patch. It is still firmly attached to the coat after lots of use and probably about three or four washes (I only wash my gear by hand, so don't know how it would have coped with a machine wash, although I would imagine it would be fine). I have never noticed any water getting in.

There may be better options as this is the only option that I have tried but it has done what I hoped it would do.

Or for complete confidence and peace of mind, send it away.  These people do it very well, but also most manufacturers will offer a repair service for a small fee.
