Bargain for anyone looking for a quality leather sheath/pouch complete with a belt loop for either their Opinel No.8 or Victorinox 111mm knife.

I bought one of the new/unissued ones for my Opinel No. 8 and it fits perfectly. One coat of leather conditioner and couple of coats of some old Meindl SportWax I had left over in the cupboard and it's good to go and should last a lifetime. They're made from quality 2mm brown full grain smooth leather and put Opinel's overpriced faux leather offerings to shame.

New/unissued available @ £6.99 delivered https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Folding-Knife-Belt-Pouch-Ex-Army-New-Brown-Leather-pocket-knife-sheath-holder/173634437274

Issued/used @ £5.99 delivered https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Folding-Knife-Belt-Pouch-Ex-Army-Grade1-Brown-Leather-pocket-knife-sheath-holder/181997636725

Decathlon purchases:
1. Quechua .8 litre water bottle for £1.49. Best bottle I have ever used.
2. 20 litre rucksack NH500 - multiple zip pckets side pockets, rain cover, pole lashing  etc,  fits a 15" laptop. Ideal work/city pack, probably ok for walking also. No waist strap but does have chest strap.Terriffic value at £19.99. (There's also a 30 litre version for £10 more.)
3. Forclaz 1 MH500 pole £12.99 each. I'm using these now rather than my Lekis - amazing value.
I got mine from the Stockport branch.

The Aldi of the great outdoors?

Re: Viewfinder cost. I use the Backcountry App. You can view OS maps for free (but with adverts at the bottom of the screen) or get the paid version for a £14.99 one-off payment. I've used it for a number of years and its never let me down. Loads of other maps on it as well, Europe, the USA, etc.

Altberg Keld 2-3 Season Boots Size 12 G-Fit Last Medium Fit - Almost new condition with minor graze to outstep of left boot which should disappear once waxed. Normal RRP £189.99.

Buy It Now @ £44.95 with free delivery. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Altberg-boots-Walking-Brown-Med-Fit-England-Vibram-UK-12/174040739486

2-3 season classic English hiking boot, designed for lower level Lakeland & Scottish fells, Nubuk leather, more breathable in summer.

Volume and width of the G-Fit last is much higher than average, especially around the forefoot. the footshape is asymmetric and the heel is a medium size, to keep heel support good and snug. reduced sideways pressure on the large toe, and a wider forefoot with slightly above medium volume.

I've just been to Millets and bought a pair of Berghaus Superlite 2 hiking boots for £92. They are advertised on their website for £115, they claim reduced from £155, I just quoted the code BIG20 and got 20% off.

This is my 4th pair of Superlites, when I first started hiking I bought a men's pair and got blisters. I then changed to buying women's boots (no more blisters caused by the boots) and replaced them because I wore them down on the outside edges which then became uncomfortable to walk in. I solved my edges wear problem by slipping half a running shoe insert under my Sorbothane inserts and the third pair lasted for two years before finally leaking last November.

I have a Marmot Precip which now leaks at the back of my neck. The hood rear inner waterproofing scratched off some time ago. When it rains I get a wet back. I don't want to throw it away so I nipped to Decathlon today and bought a £4.99 Poncho. My plan is to cut their poncho hood and shoulder area in such a way that it covers the Precip hood and I have to ensure that it doesn't blow off and away when windy. At that price I can make a mistake.

I bought a pair of Thinsulate gloves from Snow and Rock a couple of years ago, £12.95 and they proved to be of poor quality, the elastic around the wrist just gave up, but I stuck with them through thick and thin.

Today I was impulsive, so I went into Decathlon and bought myself a new pair of gloves, soft material, snug and warm, they look and feel well made £1.49.

Plus, I bought myself another pair of Decathlon boxer underwear, £3.99, brilliant, so good for hiking and running, the most comfortable and quick-drying underwear I've ever owned!
