13 people have got going already :) I'm sure many of those would have been out anyway, but I wonder of a few have been motivated to get out there and make a start, when they otherwise might not have done so.

If that be the case then the Challenge has already done good things :)

Probably wouldn't have gone out this morning if not for this challenge as it was hosing down. Another 8 miles ticked off. It did brighten up after lunch though so would probably have only have managed a short walk in the afternoon if not doing this challenge.
My other excuse to get out currently is senior daughter is working towards her bronze DofE and has chosen walking for her physical section for six months. Means she has to go out and walk every week so since the beginning of October we've been going out together every weekend.

I have probably done more than I would have done, lengthening the dog walks -and it turned out nice this afternoon after a very wet morning, so that was a bonus too.

We were walking down your way today Alewife at Stourhead very soggy, but still lovely, I'd not been there before.

Please can we make sure we copy the most recent list, I notice I've lost 4 miles since this afternoon.

Challenge List 2016
Castaway         3 miles
Mr Summit.      10.4 miles
Ruth.               10.4 miles
Shaun
Andy.               6 miles
Brian
cpjmatheison
roughed
alewife             7 miles
Slogger
peapod21 -      5 miles
Ron6632 -        13 miles
Fat Goat.          5 miles Pendle was bitingly cold today!
Annejacko        1 mile  (blown around Taw estuary!)
Lee2509 -         15 miles
Louwoo -          8 miles
Lostme1 -         5.3 miles
Sarah Pitht -    5.5 miles - stroll around the River Severn, canal basin and not a single pub!

I note it was Castaways error, so consider yourself scolded.

Yes, Annejacko, Stourhead is fab for walking.  I'm so lucky to live close by though the rain and logging activities have churned up so much mud in our usual dogwalking area that we have been using the woods a couple of miles away. Whitesheet hill, across from Stourhead, is also a nice place to walk although better in good weather as it is fairly exposed.

Can you post the accurate list as it now please Deb? My brain is VERY tired, and I need to be up at 4am, so I'm off to bed, otherwise I'd do it myself 😃

Are you able to edit and add gatebuilder too? She/he seems to have disappeared too...
If not, I'll have a go when I get a chance - currently getting ready for w*rk tomorrow  :( and then planning on watching War and Peace.

Today's walk was a toss up between the Stourhead estate or Whitesheet Hill. Given the weather I went for the more sheltered option. We'll go back on a nicer day for the other.

My apologies Alewife, I will be more careful in future and I consider myself suitably scolded!   :)

Did you knock off my 10.5 miles as revenge?  :)

Hi All,
It's easily done (using an old list). Ron6632 was still missing some miles which I've added.
It's so wet outside again today so I doubt I'll get anything added today.

Hello. Remember me? I haven't been able to get out and do much walking because of a geriatric dog that gets upset if I leave him. I thought I might have a go at the 1000 miles and worked out a route that started at my front door, 2 miles around the village. I started this on December 1st, you can start at any time, doesn't have to be 1st Jan. I have extended the route (bikehike) to 3 miles. I finished on 31st December at 75 miles.

I wrote about it on my blog and asked if anyone would like to join me, thinking half a dozen people might take it up. I am amazed that I have signed up 55 people from all over the world. They have all started on Jan 1st, and I have made a separate page to record their progress.

 http://meanqueen-lifeaftermoney.blogspot.co.uk/p/this-is-where-we-update-members.html

The rules are, they can walk, run, jog, or cycle. They send me updates in a comment as and when they want to, but they must send their mileage on the last day of every month. I will record all this on the members progress page. They can count their normal walking in the totals, or they can set time aside like I do, and go out specifically to walk.  They need to check their own mileage in whatever way they like, not all have electronic gadgets to do that.

I am aiming for 90 miles in January, 30 days at 3 miles per day. I will up this when the weather gets better and I can do a few longer walks. It takes me 35 minutes to do 2 miles, 50 minutes to do 3 miles. It's surprising how it adds up. I am beginning to enjoy it. I walk mostly at night around 8pm ish.

A link to my home page, some posts about the challenge, and some links to useful sites.

http://meanqueen-lifeaftermoney.blogspot.co.uk/

Good luck to everyone, I am optimistic that I can do it.
