Quite common in my neck of the woods, also the green woodpecker.

The first time I ever saw one, I was in a customer's house repairing a tumble dryer.
The office phoned me, and in the middle of the call I looked out of the window and exclaimed excitedly, "Ooh there's a great spotted woodpecker in a tree outside, I've never seen one before!"
The quizzical response from the girl on the other end of the phone was, "Where are you?"
"In the customer's bedroom," I replied, which was greeted with roars of laughter. "No, seriously, that's where her tumble dryer is, honestly."
But it was too late, my already-tarnished reputation went down another notch.

I'll see your Woody and raise you an Osprey! Yes they are back at Rutland Water and one flew over me when I was walking the fields at the back of our house about 1pm today.

Looks like a male Greater Spotted Woodpecker. We don’t often see them in the garden now. We stopped feeding the birds, as this was just indirectly feeding the cats. We have at least two in the woods behind us and hear them drumming in the morning. We can also hear at least two tawny owls claiming their territories.

That is good shooting capturing a GSW. They have eyes in the back of their head and seem to be able to detect movement, even when we are indoors (and the bird isn’t).

I've never seen one myself - must have been quite a feeling not just to see one but to get those photos too. Brilliant!  :) O0

I also get these occasionally, ring-necked parakeets. My wife took this picture through the kitchen window.
They're very common around parts of outer London, though not so much in my area, but they're quite spectacular when a small group of them flies quickly overhead, squawking as they go.

They've even reached Devon - resident in both Exmouth and Plymouth. Regular DFLs
(devonspeak for down-from-Londoners. Similar to Cornish 'grockles')

So many paths yet to walk, so little time left
