Greenburn Horseshoe from Grasmere

With all fells above 600 metres clagged in last week-end in the Lakes, Saturday's route was simplified to lower fells from Grasmere. Being a lover of Horseshoe walks and having done Tarn Crag last year, the Greenburn Horseshoe became the natural objective for the day. I had walked from High Raise to Helm crag three years ago and fancied doing the walk in the opposite direction. Starting from Grasmere I climbed Helm Crag first before proceeding to Gibson Knott. Thereafter I continued to Calf Crag; Steel fell became my last peak of the day before descending to Grasmere. The highlight was the view of Thirlmere from Steel fell. Total distance was 8.5 miles.

Nice pics henry  It is a nice round this, how wet underfoot was it in between Calf Crag and Steel Fell? I hope you got away with only slightly damp socks

Thanks April; all was fine underfoot but my boots were only purchased 5 months ago so wasn't expecting leakage problems so far   I did have damp boots last year on tarn crag. I also noticed some ice on the steel fell tarns and think that the ground was harder than what it could have been    It is a nice walk and one day I'd like to ascend Steel fell and descend to Borrowdale via High Raise combining Greenburn and Greenup valleys   It has a ring to it
