Beefy chose the walk again on Sunday but the weather put a spanner in the works and the route was changed after we had our lunch. We had walked into town to take the two bus journey to Patterdale. Once there we walked through Rooking along the lovely path to Hartsop
Place Fell from Patterdale
A rather sad looking robin
The robin sat for ages while we got our photos. It was bitterly cold in the wind and there were flakes of snow now and again as we walked.
Arnison Crag
When we got to Angletarn Beck we had planned to go up the beck to Angle Tarn and onto Brock Crags. We stopped to have our lunch near the beck and it started snowing so we got under the storm shelter. The snow kept stopping and starting and clag had covered the tops so we changed our minds and took the higher of the two paths to Harstop instead. It was blizzard conditions for a while and we were pleased we hadn't gone any higher. We reached Harstop and walked back toward Patterdale on the lower of the paths and reached Angletarn Beck again
Arnison Crag and Birks from Angletarn Beck
The snow had stopped but it was still very cold in the wind
Dubhow Crag
We never mind a there and back walk along here
Gavel Pike and St Sunday Crag
The sun was very welcome when it popped out from behind the cloud
Looking back to Hartsop Dodd
One of the nicest footpaths in the Lake District this, we love it.

Beefy on the return to Patterdale
From Patterdale we carried on walking to Glenridding. We still had an hour and a half for our bus so we walked up to Gillside Farm campsite and then back to Glenridding. We went into the Helvellyn Country Kitchen café and had a very nice cup of coffee each and some very tasty home made parsnip soup and bread. We'd never been in here before, it was very nice, we will go in again
Our route was Patterdale - Rooking - Angletarn Beck - higher path to Hartsop - lower path to Angletarn Beck - Patterdale - Glenridding - Gillside campsite - Glenridding. 12.1km with 338m ascent according to Viewranger. Not sure if the ascent is right
You can add another 6.9km for the walk into town in the morning and then half way back in the evening, 19km altogether. A nice day out, despite the blizzard and the freezing temperature.
