I have the GPSMAP 64s and the buttons are great in the wet, no need to take gloves off either which is great!

I use my iPhone and ViewRanger, seems to do the trick :)

What are the advantages over a dedicated GPS device? Battery life perhaps but I do take a battery pack just in case.

I've had the etrex 30 for over a year now and have had no problems with it. Buttons easy to use with gloves etc. I mainly use my smartphone on day walks but use the etrex for anything longer or in really bad weather - good waterproofing and water droplets don't mess with the screen (no touch screen).
