The Beverley 20
« on: 20:44:02, 27/09/16 »
Hey,

Has anyone done the Beverley 20 from Hull to Beverley. Any tips? How hard is the walk?

Thanks

I've done pretty much all of it as part of shorter day walks.  I wouldn't say it's a hard walk - gentle gradients, mainly crop fields and farm tracks though I think there are some cattle in Welton Dale at the moment.

I think it follows the Yorkshire Wolds Way along Hessle Foreshore at the Hull end so either do that bit when the tide's out or take the high tide route (unless you like slipping and sliding on slimey-chalky mud and boulders  :D  )

If you can, try to do it after a dry spell as the clay/chalk ground can be hard-going and slippery when it's wet (in a way that only clay/chalk soil can be  ;D  ).

Green Dragon Pub in Welton does good food.  Smashing giant Yorkshire Puddings at Half Moon Pub in Skidby.  Nice tea room at Risby.  You're spoilt for choice food-wise in Hull and Beverley.

It's a nice walk.  Big patchwork field views.  Big skies. Peaceful.  Enjoy  :)

Haha thanks! Is it easy to recognise the two different routes high and low tide?

Oh gawd, trust Brian to say that  ;D   :D

I think the easiest thing is to show you where the high tide route diverts off : http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/yorkshire-wolds-way/route/high-tide-route-north-ferriby-0

(the Yorkshire Wolds Way follows the same route at the Humber end so the same rule applies)

I've never done that diversion though 'cos it's basically all road walking - through a housing estate by the looks of things  :-\
