Just saying hello
« on: 11:54:41, 09/12/20 »
Thought i'd do the right thing and say hello .... Hi'ya!

Yeah you guessed it, i'm a norvener, based in Lancashire. Not been walking long, only a couple of years now, though i did do the DoE in my younger days (so long ago). Walk local hills and venture out to the dales and lakes as much as time allows or is that covid allows? I must be pretty sad as i like to walk when its cold and wet, even going dark. More dismall the better, there's just something about it.
Plans for 2021 is to get my wife out more and step it up a gear, walk harder routes or longer routes who knows, maybe even the 3 peaks? Time will tell

Welcome from Liverpool.

There is a magic to winter walking, though I am afraid I cannot get the more dismal the better approach!  Hopefully Lancashire will be out of Tier 3 soon and you can spread your wings a bit.

Welcome from Portsmouth, I like the winter but don't like the long dark nights.

Welcome from the southern edge of the Lake District.  :)

There is a special atmosphere to the hills when the clouds are down, and there is pleasure to be had from finishing a walk in the dark (as long as you are on easier ground, and your headtorch batteries are OK....).

Welcome from Aberdeenshire. I like starting walks in the dark. Finishing them in the dark is fine if the terrain is safe and there is a pub at the end. I have enjoyed some fantastic walks in horrible conditions. One advantage is that there is no one else around. I had Hellvellyn summit to myself and walking companion one Easter Saturday when the weather was terrible. It was an epic day and made the pub all the better afterwards.
