Dear all,

I am planning to do a 2-day hike not to far from Cambridge (not more than 2-3 h away by car) next weekend (if I understand well this kind of thing will be permited then). The idea is to spend the day walking (am not very fit), wild camp, then walk back to starting point next day. What would you recommend?

Thank you!
Federico

No longer my part of the world but why not follow the Fen Rivers Way NE along one bank of the Cam as far as you feel comfortable and then return on the path on the opposite bank?  It would save you a drive and is flat which will be a bonus if you are not fit.  Probably not the best part of the world to wild camp, with a few exceptions, it is not technically legal to wild camp in England so arrive late, be discrete and depart early leavig nothing but an impression on the ground.

Thanks ninthace,

Yep, I know is not technically legal. For that reason, but also because I like it quiet and wild, I would like some place wilder. Perhaps the Peak District?

. . . . Perhaps the Peak District? . . .
Cambridge to Edale (a major centre for the Peak District) is 150 miles and over three hours drive.

Good idea, the Kinder Scout looks super appealing. It's a bit too far, though.
Perhaps Cotswolds? I know so little about UK geography.

My understanding is that overnight stays in self contained accommodation is allowed on 12th April. I am taking this to mean wild camping!

You could head for the North Norfolk coast - there are some extensive areas of sand dunes there, would be easy to hide a small tent away. It is on the Peddars Way/North Norfolk Coast Path.

I'm thinking in particular of the section between Hunstanton in the West, and Wells Next The Sea in the East. The dunes and woods near Wells look particularly tempting.

Thank you for the recommendations! This looks great too, and much closer than the Peak District.
I'll have to wait a bit longer then... I was planning on going this Thursday :-( ... just a little bit longer
Wild camping is totally self-accomodation heheh

You could walk parts of the local (ish) long distance paths

Greensand Ridge (Gamlingay to Leighton Buzzard)
Peddars Way - Thetford then North towards the coast
Ickneld Way - Thetford to Ivinghoe passing South of Cambridge
Ridgeway - Ivinghoe 84 miles in a SE direction
