Title: TR Lanty's Tarn and Glenamara Park Sat 29 Dec 18
Post by: April on 13:23:20, 01/01/19
We managed to get up in time this week to get to Glenridding for 10.10am. It was very windy so we did a "make it up as you go walk" depending on how the weather was. Lanty's Tarn was where we headed to first.

We had sunshine and a bit of blue sky. A nice day except for the wind.

Where next? We started descending into the Grisedale Valley

We thought we might go up onto Arnison Crag if the wind had died down by the time we got to Glenamara Park

This is one of my favourite views, even better from higher up though. We left the main path in Glenamara Park and walked up toward the wall below Arnison Crag. It got windier with height so we sacked the idea of Arnison Crag and we walked down toward Hag Beck. We were looking for a place for lunch out of the wind. It was too windy so we turned around and walked back to the main path to find a place to eat our lunch.

We found a spot out of the wind below Oxford Crag to eat our lunch.

We dropped down to Patterdale and then Rooking to access the higher path toward Silver Crag

We were running out of time to catch our bus so we dropped down to the lower path before we reached Silver Crag

From Patterdale we walked to Glenridding to get the bus. Our route was Glenridding - Westside - Lanty's Tarn - Glenamara Park - Patterdale - Rooking - near Silver Crag - Patterdale - Glenridding. 12 km with 387m ascent. We really enjoyed the walk, lovely views in the sunshine, shame about the cold wind.
On Sunday we walked in the Carlisle Parks again, almost the same as last Sunday so I didn’t bother taking any pics!

I had to re-read the TR in case I had missed the follows and bagpipes, but no. More information required.

;D Sorry Ridge, I didn't put those in the TR  :)

Some people started following us when we left the main path through Glenamara Park. When we decided not to go onto Arnison Crag and descended to the beck, they stopped. They decided to turn back to the main path. They don't know we are fickle and change direction for no apparent reason  :D

The bagpipes were heard when we were on the path from Rooking to Silver Crag. The squawking racket  ;) was coming from the Inn on the Lake I think.

Lovely pics A O0

Thanks Karl and I do love the pics of your grandson on your website.  :smitten: What a cutie he is  :)

Thanks for this and all your other TRS.

Thanks jimbob  O0

A fine walk and TR+pics as always. Blue sky and sunshine have been rare for a while, it makes such a difference.
Being followed by other walkers is not uncommon in the Lakes, we find, especially in mist. I don't know why they believe you will magically lead them to their intended route and destination, it would usually be a really grave error to follow us!.
We'll be in that area tomorrow, it had better be good.

Lovely photos, April. I have a soft spot for Ullswater as we went there on holiday many times during my teenage years.

Agreed April. From February last year:

And the path along the SE shore must be the best lakeside walk in England.
