Good calls Jon. There is something to be said for the Helm Crag definitely. Littlebeck may be a good place to stop; then it is just a half day walk in to RHB

A great read. I can confirm that Fletcher House in Kirkby Stephen is a wonderful stopover, one of our favourite place on our C2C 7 years ago. In fact we tried to book it for a weekend in September on our way back from Scotland as we wanted to do Nine Standards again as we had no views at all when we were there before. Unfortunately and as expected they were fully booked, but we stayed at the Nateby Inn which was fine and did a circular walk from there. We got the views this time, but it was still boggy!

Another day I thought about but never planned is Kirkby Stephen to Keld then heading up to some of the lead mine route and working your way off the moor down to Gunnerside for the night ( think there are still beds for the night there)
Anyway; enjoy your planning
John
Yes John, defo worth a thought. Ive done that exact line in reverse from Gunnerside, actually a circular along the lower level C2C from Keld to Gunnerside then up the fell and linked up to the higher level route and followed in reverse back to Keld.Dave (Slogger)

When I went through Gunnerside this May, I had a quick look up past the bridge before crossing it and saw a fingerpost up to the left pointing straight up the shoulder of the Fell. Guess that's it Dave?

Yes John that's the one, a grass track leading up to an improved track.
