Y Garn was merciful !!! No wonder Why
« on: 20:07:01, 27/01/18 »
A clueless couple, with a very frightened 5yr old child in tow, got into serious difficulties on Y Garns summit, yesterday.
Ogwen MRT were surprised that they escaped unscaved, as none of the family were wearing suitable clothing for the temperatures, which were close enough to freezing.

Obviously they could not see the danger in climbing a Welsh 3000er in far from perfect conditions.

Thankfully they escaped to tell the tail,  but taking a 5yr old child, up one of Snowdonia"s most exposed 3000ers was most unwise.

An ill-conceived day out! Lets hope they learn from it. O0

The Grough article refers to a 'footpath closed' sign at the foot of the Idwal Slabs, with a diversion.

Does anyone know why this is? Just curious.

They are building a bridge across the stream and the naivety of some people who head up the mountains no longer surprise's me I have over a dozen tales of this sort of thing and worse 😞

A bridge over the stream, rock steps up towards Twll Du. Taming the wilds. It'll only encourage more ill-prepared people. SNP will be putting signposts up next.

(Actually, a bridge makes sense, even though crossing the stream contributes towards the wilderness experience for the tourists, for it will make everyone cross at one point rather than going up and down the banks looking for somewhere else to cross it, thus creating more erosion.)
