Love every photo. You know I remember as a kid on family holidays being forced to traipse up Hellvellyn with things like "We're not going all the way up.....not much further......nearly there now, might as well carry on to the top." Feel sorry for mmk junior having to wait at car park for us! Everything comes full circle really! :)
-
Ahhh she a cool kid Mr Hugger .... don't worry, she enjoyed yesterday & got a free hot chocolate with marshmallows from the burger van lady. O0

I felt really guilty but mmk junior is just like her mum, very kind and lovely and hopefully Annabelle will want to join our next walk so I can treat her to hot chocolate and marshmallows :)

Don't know how you can drink hot choccy....uuurgh! Still haven't finished the jelly babies.....yeti did say I could have one of the unopened co-op sarnies on the back seat of their car if I wanted but that would have been even more cheeky! Besides they weren't hot!
-
We should have ordered take away to be delivered to the carpark :D
-
I was way too tired to eat when I got home, so just a cuppa.
The burger van lady literally drove off as you came into view & we stood there, one eye on her, one eye on you, what could we do, ambush her, I was fully prepared to throw myself down in the road, but I'd just had 2 teas & a large cheese & onion muffin of the burger van lady & I was digesting ;D ;D ;D
-
I didn't eat either Kerry, was too exhausted even though my dad brought me round chippy chips. Managed to drink the can of coke he bought me though ;D
-
Think you left your Cherry cola in my car .... do you want me to save it till the next walk? :D
-

Thankfully the weather was very good - just been woken up now, about a mile from Dovestones and same altitude because of the noise from the wind outside !!!
Popped out to check the wheelie bin hadn't blown over after hearing something and nearly got blown over myself ...... this will come as no surprise anyone who met me on Saturday as I am clearly thin & svelte with not an ounce of excess weight 8) 8)

You did and very kind it was of you. I was sort of challenging myself to see if I could carry everything I needed just in case I did a ten miler on my own.
Only kidding about knocking all that time off lol!!

I was carrying two rucksacks at one point on the descent anyway. You looked perfectly capable of 10 miles or many more O0 . Time is for challenges and challengers. Enjoy the countryside. Take a break and enjoy it O0 . There is nothing wrong with taking time and absorbing the atmosphere. In fact its the best excuse to slow a walk ;) .

Well said !!
Especially on a circuitous route you already know where you'll end up (ie where you started) - but on any walk its the walk itself which is the destination not the end point. The entire walk is there to be enjoyed.
If you walk too quickly, chances are you'll miss so much. Sometimes when I'm out I'll try to track an animal by reading the land, where it placed its feet, moved grasses, snapped twigs, scraped the ground. Other times I'll sit perfectly still and watch the wildlife around me - cheeky squirrels and curious bog owls.
Thats why I rarely walk with folk who charge off like its a selection test for the Royal Marines !! They miss so much, they may as well walk around a city ;D ;D

When Iiswoz and I was navigating down there where no 'marked routes' on OS. Our group discovered a trodden track and knew it was the obvious choice by the footprints O0 .

There are loads of routes and tracks over the Pennines / Dark Peak which don't show up on any map
Many are started & followed religiously by those most capable moorland navigators ........ sheep ;)
Then humans start to follow them too - the paths, not the sheep ..... well, not unless you're that way inclined ;D ;D ;D

True, but I live in the countryside so I sort of do all my absorbing and looking when I'm at home. Having said that, I was blown away by the Yorkshire Dales and couldn't stop staring. ;D ;D

You see countryside from your window. Isn't it like an old portrait or picture hanging? Its nice but a new angle always appeals? :)

spend some time in Scotland. yorkshire is like Birmingham on a Saturday afternoon in comparison.
-
I still don't understand how walking from 11am to 7 pm inc stops we only covered 10 miles.......less than 1.5 miles per hour? That's slower than Royal Mail........

Lol!! And it makes you more tired doing it slower sometimes.
