We took a very gentle walk yesterday in the area between the Sierra Nevada and the Mediterranean coastal range, (Sierra de la Contraviesa) just south from Granada. February it seems is THE month for Almond blossom so it caught the photographers eye.

In the early morning the hillsides were frosty and white but  that disappeared as soon as the sun got up and we were left with frosty and pink. The blossom  makes a pink mist  in the a distant view.

The Hoopoe was a bonus sighting; they are supposed to migrate south to Africa but some it seems save themselves the bother if they sense it is going to be a good winter.

There were snowy hilltops on the Contraviesa, to the south of us, just a few miles from the Med. and of course the Sierra Nevada to the north stood out, with a good thick coat.

I came across these birds in Aswan, Egypt last year - even managed a few blurry pictures - the locals didn't seem to have a name for them and our guide didn't have a clue.

It's nice to finally be able to put a name to it - thanks  O0
