Day walks for us at the weekend, the weather forecast wasn't great and due to get worse over night. We drove to Threlkeld and parked near the Blencathra Centre. We thought we would do Mungrisdale Common, one of Beefy's 3ers and a new Wainwright for Squeaky.
Looking a bit grim as we leave the car park
Walking above the Glenderaterra
It started raining as soon as we left the car park so it was on with the waterproofs and they stayed on all day.
Walla Crag and Catbells seen in the mist
Great Calva appearing in the clag
After we crossed Roughten Gill we started ascending on a trod leading up to the summit of Mungrisdale Common
Waterfall in Sinen Gill
We crossed Sinen Gill and continued climbing and soon we were in the clag that was covering most of the Lake District fells.
On Mungrisdale Common summit
Nothing to see so we quickly left heading left on a different trod that leads to the Cloven Stone. The wind was stronger up here and it was blowing the rain straight into our faces as we walked.
On the descent to The Stake
We descended from the Cloven Stone as quickly as we could only slowing when we reached the boggy bit near The Stake. We said hello to a man with two dogs who was crossing the stile as we plodged toward it.
Skiddaw House can be seen right of Centre. We stopped for some lunch sheltering from the wind behind the wall. It was a quick stop only 20 minutes, we were damp and we started feeling cold. We walked quickly to the Guide Stone then turned left to return on the same path we'd used walking up the valley earlier
High Rigg and Tewet Tarn (just about) seen in this shot
Our route was Blencathra Centre - Roughten Gill - Sinen Gill - Mungrisdale Common - Cloven Stone - The Stake - Guide Stone - Roughten Gill - Blencathra Centre 7.25 mile and 550m ascent.
