Dartmoor/S Devon book/walk recommendations
« on: 11:53:55, 16/08/16 »
I am having a couple of days in S Devon (Torquay area) - the other half is going there with work so I am tagging along. I'm planning on getting in some walking while there -  haven't been to the area for donkeys years so I'ma after some recommendations re routes or a good reference book. I'm up for walks up to about 10 miles - coast; moor; great views etc

I will have access to a car so can drive to destinations but don't want to spend hours driving; and circular routes would be my preference.

Plus any info on great (real ale and/or good food) pubs and tea rooms grateful received.

Thank you in advance.

Jarrold produce a book on South Devon in their "Short Walks" series.  The walks range in length between 1.5 and 5.5 miles.

The walk on the coastal path from Brixham to Kingwear is a good one and you can get the bus back to Brixham.
Richard Knight has a website with alot of good walks on Dartmoor of various lengths. (I'm not allowed to post hyperlinks for some reason)

Thanks so far, folks.

Is this the website Peter devon? http://www.richkni.co.uk/dartmoor/

I think it may be because you are a new member (not enough posts under your belt) that you are unable to post links. You'll just have to waste, I mean spend a bit more time here posting :D

The swcp has a good useful website including links to make up circular walks using the public transport so might be worth a look.

If you are interested in ancient history as well as walking, you could have a look at my Walking Through the Past series. The Dartmoor area is available as paperback, Kindle eBook, and on Viewranger.

Very helpful replies - thank you.
I'm heading there in later on this week for and intend to get my bearings locally by doing a couple of walks - maybe from the SW coast path link.

With a bit of luck I'll get to go down there every now and again.
