Can you help find this great country pub?
« on: 09:36:44, 16/04/19 »
Myself and wife (to be at the time), went for a walk around King Sterndale (on 4-April-2015) then visited a country pub on the way back to Stockport, not too far off route as we did book ahead.

We have been unable to re-find this pub and had a lovely meal and hope to re-visit, can you help?  Maybe the windows and lime walls will help you suggest where it could be?

Hoping you can succeed where I have been unable to.  Thanks, David

Edit: Also not much nearby and was ‘well decorated’ for Easter so presumably a family friendly pub.

Thanks but not the same one, we did leave the nearby area and the pub and windows don’t match. But thank you for your time.

Thanks, but wrong pub, there was a pub car park and I remember thinking there wasn’t much nearby. Thanks for your time.

It does look like a nice pub but the windows don’t match and although the pub I’m looking for could have been done up by now, this place is more modern looking.

I’m going to keep looking, thanks for the suggestions.

We are hoping to find it and book in on Easter Sunday, if we do find it in time I’ll gladly buy the winner a pint 🍺 (or soft drink) if they are about 👍

How did you find it, did you see a board pointing down a lane from the main road? Or did you turn off, following a sign to a village, hoping to find a pub there?
If it wasn't too far off your route back to Stockport, as you say, how about following your route on an Ordnance Survey map - you can do this on Bing Maps in Ordnance Survey view - on which pubs are marked with PH or a blue pint glass with a handle.
Then you search online for any for any you find, with a rough location.
Most pubs have their own web pages these days, with photos of them. Or there are sites such as Beer In The Evening that list pubs in an area. Just do a search for 'pubs near xxx', lots of sites come up. If these don't have a photo of the pub, you can do an image search online.

P.S. Those lime walls might have been repainted since 2015.
P.P.S. The pub might have closed down since 2015!

Good advice on the pub hunt. I can no longer get bing maps to work though. Does it still work for you?

Yes, no problem. I used it earlier for a sneaky check of far it is from King Sterndale to Stockport (21 to 36 miles, depending on the route)  8)

Have you tried looking at your old bank statements as you might have paid by debit/credit card?

Thanks. Strangely it works in desktop mode for me but if I view it in mobile mode it substitutes Google maps on a Bing search page. Weird.

Odd, Bing maps is Microsoft, can't imagine any official link with Google maps. Bing is currently working fine on my old android tablet.
