Arbroath to Oban - Help needed
« on: 19:28:46, 08/01/08 »
Hi there

My mate is planning his next walk as part of the Travistrek fundraising group, having previously completed West Highaland Way, Speyside Way, Southerin Upland Way and last year the Peninne Way. We have seen some references to a walk on the above route but the only book that refers to it is available at £136 from Amazon.

If anyone can supply us with any info on the above walk, we would be really grateful.

Thanks

Dougie

PS if anyone has a copy of the book 'across scotland on foot' get it on amazon

Oban to Arbroath is a TGO challenge route....
It would go something like:

Oban - Taynuilt ( quiet road) - Loch Etive E shore - Glen Kinglass - Victoria Bridge - Bridge of Orchy - Beinn Dorain - Glen Lyon - Aberfeldy - Pitlochry - Kirkmichael - Glen Isla - Glen Prosen - Kirriemuir - Forfar - Arbroath. You could just reverse this, of course.
Another option would be to go down by Loch Rannoch - or up Loch rannoch, I suppose, bagging Schiehallion on the way...
You'd need to wild camp as the  "indoor" accomodation is very widely spaced in some parts of the route.
