We spotted a mile stone for the Icknield Way which starts where the Ridgeway ends at Ivinghoe Beacon and then links to, as indicated on the stone, The Peddars Way at Thetford.
The wild garlic was still out but past its best.
There is a very steep stepped path through the woods and 2 men were running up and down it repeatedly. Even though they were friends one was fitter than the other so you were constantly meeting one or the other of them. Very annoying.
As we walked down the Golden Valley, which I talked about in the previous report, my daughter suddenly said 'I've been here before' I thought perhaps she had suddenly become psychic and was having a past-life experience but no. Earlier this year in the teeth of storm Dennis she had been on a challenge walk which had passed that way. Very different weather today from the howling gale and torrential rain that she had encountered then.
Last week this field was a barren desert
More of the pretty cottages in Frithsden
Someone was playing the organ in the church as we sat on the step to have a drink.
The photo is looking down at Spooky Lane in Frithsden from the Devils Bridge. This is an ancient, possibly Roman, route which was sunk by the Duke of Bridgewater so that the posh people could ride along the top of the escarpment and over the bridge without having to meet the plebs on the track.
Another lovely walk of just over 14 miles in glorious weather.
