TR Knoydart part 1, Ladhar Bheinn.
« on: 21:21:50, 14/07/18 »
The ferry from Mallaig on the west coast of Scotland to the small village of Inverie on the Knoydart Peninsular takes about 45 minutes, the quickest and easiest way to get there.

From left to right, Ladhar Bheinn (Lerven), Sgurr Coire Choinnichean, Luinne Bheinn (Louis Vane), and Meall Buidhe.

Inverie

Looking back towards Mallaig.

Ladhar Bheinn from my campsite, the route goes around the right of the wood and up to the Bealach (col) on the ridge.

Over the other side of the ridge, looking down on the Sandaig Isles where Gavin Maxwell lived and wrote "A ring of bright water".

Loch Hourn.

Looking down the ridge. Egg, Rum and Canna on the horizon.

Looking up the ridge.

Looking back up to the summit from half way down the east side.

And further down.

The route ahead over Aonach Sgoite, lots of up's and down's.

The planned site for the night, Dubh-Lochain.

A last look at Ladhar Bheinn.

Meall Buidhe.

Luinne Bheinn.

My camp for the night, not the best site very tussocky.

The 'Rough Bounds of Knoydart' are a very fine place to visit whatever the style of walking adventure you prefer. We went in there as a family from Kinlochhourn many years ago to reach the Munros and more recently by the wee boat from Mallaig to round up the fine Corbetts in the area.
The new folks have done a good job in renovating the area around where the boat comes in and the JM folks are doing their best for the peninsula....a part of the country with a controversial history in the 20th century.
Thanks also to Mr. Brasher's gifted money, I guess made from all of those boots sold to walkers.
