Why would you spray a field with Sulphuric Acid? Anyone know? Seems a bit drastic and dangerous!
Will this wind be so mighty as to lay low the mountains of the Earth?

I thought as an insecticide.  One sure way of dealing with them I suppose  ;)

The thought crossed my mind, not so much as a "har har, this'll get 'em", but more of a farmer's attempt to keep ramblers out of his fields.  There was an identical sign at the other side of the field, again with no date.  :-\

Found this on a government website:

Sulphuric acid is approved for use as an agricultural 'desiccant' (it dries out the green parts before harvesting) on potato, bulbs and peas.

Farmers and contractors spraying sulphuric acid must follow special conditions.

    * They must write to anyone living, working, growing crops or keeping animals within 25 metres of the land they are going to treat. This must be at least one day before the spraying and must mention the possibility of a hazard.
    * Before spraying, they must put clear notices on all roads and paths next to the field which is going to be sprayed. The notices should give the time and place of the application and explain the possibility of a hazard. They must be left in place for at least four days.

Thanks for looking that up, pretty negligent of them not to put the date on, but hey, at least they put a sign up!

Let's see, I carried on regardless, what do we think the potential risks are? Actually, strike that, I don't want to know.   :o
