I will start the thread and hope that WHW will put some up piccies (? and more accurate info) when she has a moment;

WHW, Sara and I had a good, if somewhat damp, walk on Thursday. We parked at the NT carpark in Lacock, and because I was late it had already started to rain when I arrived. So after a quick change into full waterproofs we headed off (via the loo, just managing to beat the coachload of 'older ladies', who formed an orderly queue). We walked along the old canal which is gradually being repaired. Then past Camilla's place, apparently, easily identified by the barbed wire double layered fence (to keep her in, do you think?). Passing through Calne Without, of course, we all wondered, 'without what?' We crossed some fields and tackled the first hill of the walk before joining the footpath around the golf course close to Bowood House. The public footpath was well marked, as were the areas for Gofers only. We didn't manage to spot any Gofers. The rain was fairly steady through the day but eased off long enough for us to have our sarnies, and wonder what all these guys playing golf should be doing with their time. Honestly, there were scores of them. Sara spotted an 'animal' (unidentified) running across the golf course:  I looked in the sky, so missed it completely.  We continued through fields and another hill, and came to a place called Sandy Lane, which I suggested sounded like a cruise ship caberet artist (or a porn star).  A navigation error had us rejoin the narrow footpathless road a little earlier than we should have done, causing havoc with the traffic. Sue was keen to do a Brucie, but Sara refused, and then we forgot all about it; maybe next time. We returned to Lacock passing the Abbey.

This was a really nice walk, in spite of the rain, with a real mix of pretty villages and chocolate box country cottages, woodland paths with bluebells just coming into full bloom, waterside paths and a couple of muddy fields of crops.

Sara profoundly stated that 'It would have been nice and dry if it hadn't rained.'

Sue's satnav put us at walking at about 7.5mph but she promised to go home and read the instructions.

A really lovely days walking - thank you, ladies.

It was a lovely walk and the rain didn't spoil it at all for me, but  I was right, it would have been dry if it hadn't rained (I think it was my only blonde moment of the day) ;D

Very good report alewife. :)

I kept my camera in the dry but risked a few phone shots so they don't really do the area justice. This is part of a 14+ mile walk which I've planned for guests so I'll take the opportunity to add photos from the other bit (which I walked a week ago). Might also add a few photos I've taken whilst walking in the area before, to give a better idea of it. I'll have to come back to do all that later though when the chores are done.

The pics aren't that great but they're on my WHWH Facebook page if anyone wants to have a look, also the ones I took a week ago on the other section of the walk.
