Gourmet Food Walk
« on: 08:18:25, 25/04/17 »
A new Gourmet Food Walk is coming to East Devon in early June!  The 7.5 mile route, which can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace over a whole day starting between 10am and 11am, will explore breath-taking scenic views of Devon countryside.

Along the route participants will break every couple of miles for a different mouth-watering course selected and prepared by local cooks including a starter of Wild Garlic Pesto with Cherry Tomato & Cheddar Quiche, Normandy Pork & Cider Stew or Somerset Stew as the main course and a dessert of Rhubarb and Strawberry Cheesecake.
As walking is thirsty work each course will be accompanied by an alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink, such as Dorset Wildcat Award Winning Cider, IPA Real Ale, Palmers Ginger Ale or Dorset Nectar Organic Apple Juice.

The event is raising money for worthy charity Devon Freewheelers on the day.  Their volunteers deliver essential blood and medication to hospitals during out of hours.

Walk with family or friends, or make new ones as you chat with your fellow walkers.  We are sure you will enjoy this fantastic new day out.

Yum - food, drink and walking in glorious Devon - my ideal day out! and Devon Freewheelers is very worthwhile cause.  https://www.bloodbikesdevon.org.uk/
Rather like mountain rescue, air ambulance etc one that hopefully you'll never need yourself but would be very grateful to if you did.

Date is Sunday 4 June from Kilmington. Booking, through wackynation, closes 21 May. I'm not connected in any way with them and trust that they don't cream off cash from the Freewheelers.

Perhaps this could be clarified?

Hi Jac

Thanks for your post.  Yes the event fee includes a donation for Freewheelers.  They have suggested that we should keep the donation small and ask people to choose to make a bigger donation on the day if they wish rather than having to get sponsored as per most events.

We like to be 100% transparent so here is what is included in the entry fee;

  • Fully waymarked route for the approx 7.5 mile walk
  • Three course meal spaced out over three stops
  • Three alcoholic or non alcoholic locally sourced drinks to accompany food
  • Tea or coffee at the finish
  • Water & snack for the route
  • Small donation to Freewheelers
  • First Aiders
  • Free parking

Thankyou. I understand what I would be getting for my money but doesn't actually explain what will be 'donated' to Devon Freewheelers.

Will it be an agreed percentage of the cost of each booking, a fixed sum already agreed irrespective of numbers booked or an arbitrary sum to be decided on later?

Sorry if it wasn't clear.  Yes Freewheelers are receiving an agreed amount from each booking.

This event is being run by a small social enterprise business, our ethos is to run community events that encourage all ages to socialise together in the fresh air, get fit and healthy and raise money for local charities.
