Sulber and Moughton Scars
« on: 19:56:33, 01/08/17 »
Evening all  :)

Some pictures from a blog I wrote this morning partly to celebrate Yorkshire Day 2017 and partly to take my mind off an impending dentist visit this afternoon. This was our last walk of 2016 and our first time in the Yorkshire Dales for a couple of years - a shortfall of Dales walking that we intend to remedy this year hopefully.

The Ribble.

The first scar we passed on our way up to Sulber.

Ingleborough and Simon Fell.

Out on the karst, no-one can hear you scream...

Heading back to Horton-in-Ribblesdale.

As always, the full write-up and more pictures can be found here:

A great TR and pictures adalard.  It brought back memories for me of the forum meet last year when we walked around the Crummack Dale area.

Thanks for the kind comments all - I really appreciate it.  :) O0

An amazing limestone landscape

Yes, it's fascinating around there and so beautiful. I wish I lived closer so I had more opportunity to explore it.

I hope the dentist visit was alright.

Cheers, April... It wasn't too bad - I think for me the anticipation is the worst thing!  :-\  But it's done and dusted until my next check up now.  O0

Lovely photos and TR. My only experience of round there is after the Y3P and I have to say I wasn't in a state to hang around and explore the slimy slippy limestone pavements coming off Ingleborough that day!

I've had a look at the map while reading your TR - but got a bit confused (quite easy for me!!). Do you have attract of your route on a map at all?

Thanks, Sarah and Penygadair - I'm really glad you enjoyed the TR, it was a great afternoon.  :)

I know what you mean about the ideas for walks, Penygadair - I've already got a list as long as both arms put together! I think I'm going to have to get longer arms soon...  ;D

Sarah, I've taken a screenshot from OS Maps of our route. The only bit that's missing is my excursion to the summit of Moughton and back, which was from the end of the "spur" at the base of the route outline. I've placed a waymarker on the map at the summit; I'm not sure how much distance that added to the overall walk, not much I think.

Adalard, thank you - that is so kind and much appreciated. I had worked some of it out, but not all - so brilliant.

We have a week up north in September so an explore on a dry day might be on the cards

No problem, happy to help.

I get confused writing the TRs sometimes, always have to double check I haven't got my east and west back to front in my head.  ;D

Hope you have a great time in September wherever you end up walking.

Brilliant blog write up and superb photos adalard.  There's so much more to explore in the Dales than the 3 peaks as your write up shows  :)

Thanks also for the reminder of an Ingleborough walk I did with Peter (off this forum) that included Thieves Moss and views of Moughton Scars.  It's been too long since I was last in the Dales....I must do something about that.

Thanks, April - you'll love it there when you visit, I'm sure.  :)

Cheers, Mel.  :)   As I was writing the report I was thinking exactly the same thing about the Dales - it' not really any further or more difficult for us to get to than the Lakes or Snowdonia so we need to remedy that as well.  O0
