My second walk on my last ROI trip was another coastal classic. When walking along Strandhill beach the previous day, I met two other walkers and we started chatting about coastal walks near Sligo. They recommended Streedagh Beach. Streedagh beach was a 20 minute drive from the hotel. I parked in a lay by just before the main car park. When I entered the beach I knew immediately I was in for a good walk. I walked over the sand dunes in the morning and returned via the beach in the afternoon. To my right I saw the main dartry range from Benbulbin to the Arroo plateau and to my left I could see Slieve League in south Donegal. The early morning cloud lifted and all dartry peaks could be seen in the afternoon. The only drawback - it was too short so I headed to Rosses Point in the late afternoon for a another stroll. Normally I climb mountains on good days and valleys on cloudy days. What I've learnt this year in Sligo is that a low level walk can be just as exciting as a higher level walk in this region.
